Correct Installation of Fibre Optic Lighting

Care must be taken to ensure the design and installation of any underwater lighting product is completed carefully and with the correct methods.

Preparation & Terminating of Fibre Cable (Fig. 1)

Carefully cut the fibre to the specified length. The cross section should be perfectly uniform and the cut surface of the fibre should remain flat and square to the light engine. Step 1. Cut fibres using a hot knife tool to ensure a clean and flat. Polish the fibre surface if necessary. Step 2. Peel approx 50-100mm of the PVC jacket of the fiber (not necessary for fibre without any PVC jacket). Take care not to damage the fibre.

Multi Stranded Fibre Installation (Star Field Ceilings etc)

Drill holes into the ceiling panels according to the desired design. Insert the fibre optic strand into the holes (from above) and fix with an epoxy glue. (see Fig.2). Paint or finish the ceiling surface as required. When set, trim the end of the fibre strands to be flush with the ceiling panel, or to any desired length using side-cutters. Prepare the fire harness as required.

Side glow fibre, correct termination principal, to ensure good uniformity and even illumination effect:

Step 3. Unscrew the (PG) Gland Connector and insert the fiber harness into the connector until the end of the cable is flush with the outer surface of the connector. Screw down the compression gland tightly. Step 4. Insert the prepared fibre connector into the fixing flange of the light engine, hold in place by tightening the lock screw.
