SUPERLIGHT EXTERIOR LIGHTING - CATALOGUE

Maintenance Guidelines for Outdoor Luminaires

All outdoor light fittings regardless of the material or finish should be maintained periodically to ensure they achieve their optimum lifespan.

Maximise the Lifespan of your Installation

Cleaning Method:

Periodic cleaning/washing of outdoor light fittings should be carried out using appropriate techniques. Ensure that excess build-up of grit, dirt, salt and other chemicals is not allowed to penetrate or affect the fitting or cause damage over time. Washing removes contaminants (such as salt) that can cause corrosion and is necessary to avoid staining, discolouration and long term corrosion damage from rain and other environmental impacts.

Washing over the surface of exterior light fittings can also be helpful in reducing discolouration and corrosion or ‘tea staining’ on stainless steel surfaces. For best results wash lightly with soap or mild detergent and warm water followed by rinsing with clean cold water. The surface should then be wiped dry. Clean and lubricate all metal components, especially screw fixings, any moving parts. Lightly apply WD40 to areas that require such attention.

Regular Maintenance Intervals

316 Stainless Steel Luminaires

It is recommended that all outdoor lighting installations receive such periodic maintenance at least 1-2 times per year, particularly if the installation is exposed to harsh conditions such as in a salt air, weather, environment etc.

For 316 marine grade stainless steel fittings, the application of suitable oil or appropriate metal corrosion protection is also recommended if applicable to ensure longevity.

Inspect and Review Regularly

In addition to cleaning and general maintenance, a suitably qualified person should regularly inspect all aspects of the installation. Check all junction boxes and cable runs and ensure all remain in good condition. Take time to inspect for obvious signs of water or dust ingress and eliminate any potential causes of future issues. Clean and remove any vermin, bugs, cobwebs, keeping all components free from contaminants and foreign objects. Check Connected Control Gear & Devices Regularly inspect all LED control gear components, including LED drivers and control system devices. For programmable devices such as time clocks or digital controllers, it is recommended to regularly test and rest these at least once per year. Replace items such as batteries, and other consumables to ensure the installation remains functioning as intended.
